Efeer in Train 121: Treasure in a broken vessel

Efeer in Train 121: Treasure in a broken vessel

By Maritza Angulo de González

Have you read the story of Humpty Dumpty? “Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. And all the king’s horses, and all the king’s men … couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty together again!” Can you imagine?  There was no man, no woman, nobody in earth that can put him together again!   He was broken! His life, as he knew it, was over!

As I rode in Train 121 on my way to Titi Lolita’s funeral, I sat next to Efeer, a young Jewish woman with a heavy burden:  She was broken, she was in pieces!  She told me her story of sorrow and brokenness.  She taught she could never be repair, she taught she was useless! She was in trouble!  She was not aware that our God is known for his ability to mend brokenness, to heal broken things, broken hearts, broken dreams.

As she cried and told her story, I remembered, “I will give thanks to God
because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. God’s works are miraculous, and my soul is fully aware of this.”  We talked about the possibility of creating dance to worship her creator, not of becoming, but to declare who she already was:  Woman of God, Woman of Power, Women with a purpose!  Oh, her smile as she tried to compose herself and understand what was happening in her mind, in her heart!  She understood, our God mend broken hearts, broken lives!  Our God extravagantly loves those that have failed and feel they have messed up.  Our God is able!  He drove in this train with Efeer and me and took the opportunity to show us His grace!

And Efeer, she is a Treasure in a broken vessel.  She encountered her God in a Train… a moving forward… a moving toward Her call!

Prayer:  Dear Lord, you are near the brokenhearted, you are known because you heal the crushed in spirit and bind up our wounds; ride the train with your treasure, your Efeer and touch her with your hands, warm in the oil of your Spirit. Amen!

Amen !
