YOUTH SUNDAY: Are You Ready for GOD has Made a New Thing
Our youth were invited to pay close attention to the sermons during the month of January. They were asked to give their personal interpretation and understanding of the passages used and to share their reflections with the congregation. We are grateful for their messages and their atrevimiento (daring). Our youth are the leaders of the present. They are the church of today. Let them speak. Let us listen and hear and learn and process.
As during most Sundays, we tweeted for those members of the congregation that are not physically with us, these are some of the tweets shared during THIS service. These are shared because they offer a glimpse into the ways in which our youth CHALLENGE us to be a United Church of Christ! “We are reconciled ambassadors of Christ…did you know?” “Youth listen to sermons, read the Bible, self process research question doubt reflect! God made a new thing R U ready?” “Compassionate Love…God is doing a new thing… are you ready Manantial de Gracia?! Our youth challenge us! Amen.” #peacewarriors #justiceseekers
Below are the portions of their sermons that they choose to share publicly:
“I’m going to do something new. It is already happening. Don’t you recognize it? I will clear a way in the desert. I will make rivers on dry land.”
“Well as Pastor Elly said on January 3, 2016: ‘From necessary endings we get new things.’ In order for God to do something new, something that is going to change your life in certain ways, you need to end necessary things that may be interrupting your communication with God.
‘It is already happening. Don’t you recognize it?’
The things that God is already doing for you could be big things like a house or car but it could be also little things that have a bigger meaning. We can’t see these little things because we don’t let ourselves see it because we are thinking about things that we want for the future , and we get so clung to this thoughts of the materials things that we want for the future life aspirations that we want that we forget about the miracles that God is doing right here and right now. ‘How are you concentrated on tomorrow’s miracles if you are not enjoying today’s’ said Pastor Elly.
‘Are you ready/ Estas lis@?’ to follow God’s lead and allow God to be part of your life. ‘I will clear a way in the desert, I will make rivers on dry’
‘Now all glory to God, who is able through his mighty power to work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think’ (Ephesians 3:20).
Are you ready?”
*Alana: Jeremiah 31:21-22Alana is a high school Freshman.
21 Set up road signs; put up guideposts. Mark well the path by which you came. Come back again, my virgin Israel; return to your towns here. 22 How long will you wander, my wayward daughter? For the Lord will cause something new to happen— Israel will embrace her God. (NLT)
“My reflection towards this passage is that the healing power of LOVE does NOT belong to any religion. It is NOT Christian, or Jewish, or Buddhist or Hindu, etc. It is NOT exclusive or protective of itself. It spontaneously opens to BLESS, Surround and Inspire ANY human being who is ready to give it and receive it. We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to one human race, however, Few are the giants of the soul that actually feel that the human race is their family circle.
OUR SPIRIT is requiring you to HEAL DEEPER, to ELEVATE past the hurt, to TRANSCEND beyond what happened, to LET GO of what or who NO LONGER SERVES YOU, to PROTECT your ENERGY daily, to get the lesson, to MASTER your emotions, to FORGIVE YOURSELF, to LOVE YOURSELF UNCONDITIONALLY, and to HONOR your body temple, ALL in order to THRIVE and VIBRATE HIGHER DAILY! It is wise to remember that we are not the mind, we are SPIRIT that is supposed to utilize the mind as part of our navigation system. When that navigation system becomes glitched and spiraling through unnecessary routes, it’s time to observe it, destroy the programming and rebuild ones own navigation system…Vigorously Observe where you are heading to…COME BACK TO LOVE!”
*Rachel: 2 Corinthians 5:16-20Rachel Davis is a 14 year old, 8th grader.
16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. (KJV)
“I believe 2 Corinthians 5:16-20 means that just like how God gave others a second chance we should too, and not judge everyone from the first thing we notice about them. We should treat others the way we would want to be treated, and I know I would want a second chance if I messed up the first time.”
*Paola: Revelations 21:1-8Paola is a 17 year old, high school Junior.
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. 2 And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband… (NLT)
“My reflection towards this passage is that these versus talk about the new heaven and the new earth! All things will be renewed. Basically like a renovation. Like stated God makes his home within men and women.
There is a connection, a bond between both. In this process, God wipes all the sorrows and angu for the new challenge? are you ready for the new beginnings? Are you ready for the new heavens and earth that God has brought forth for this year.
When the king calls, no one in the palace, no one in the kingdom, not even yourself can overturn his calling. Whenever the king decides to open doors for you, to bless you, to even make a way …some people may not like it but like it says in Rev. 21:1-8 he is A to Z. He is the beginning and the end. He is king.
Doors are opening before you NOW, inviting you to MOVE FORWARD. Our opportunity is always to make the choice for Joy. To see the world with new eyes – open eyes – loving eyes. To choose compassion and understanding – for ourselves, our family, our friends, our community, for the whole world. Are you ready Manantial de Gracia?”
